Welcome to DerbyCon 2.0 – “The Reunion”. This is the place where security professionals from all over the world come to hang out. DerbyCon 2.0 will be held September 27-30th, 2012. DerbyCon 2011 pulled in over 1,100 people with an amazing speaker lineup and a family-like feel. We’ve listened to your feedback and plan on making this conference even better. Our goal is to keep it around the same size and maintain a close-knit conference where we all come together to learn and share ideas.

Those engaging in cyberespionage to steal various classified and/or proprietary documents from U.S. agencies and other organizations are riding high. Foreign spies, including U.S. allies, are increasingly launching digital assaults against the nation to steal sensitive economic secrets, according to a recent report by the U.S. Office of National Counterintelligence Executive (UNSEX). The theft of this critical information shows that attackers - state-sponsored or not - are enlisting whatever weaknesses in systems they can to thieve corporate and government data, often going unnoticed for months. Experts share background on the types of attacks to watch out for and what to do to thwart them.

I had the esteemed opportunity to interview Wayne Crawford, Vice President of North America, Clarion Events for Counter Terror Expo US and Amb. David J. Smith, Senior Fellow & Cyber Center Director at the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies during my weekly BlogTalkRadio show. Mr. Crawford provided a wealth of information about the upcoming event while Amb. Smith gave some insight about the topic he will be discussing at the Expo.

The campaign gives libraries the tools they need to educate and engage users, and gives citizens the resources to think critically and make more informed choices about their privacy.
The American Library Association (ALA) has developed a variety of resources to help libraries reach out to their communities. Choose Privacy Week begins on May 1, 2012!
Choose Privacy Week begins next week (May 1 – 7, 2012), and the ALA is offering numerous resources to help libraries take part, including online programming, a series of blog posts and a brand-new new video documentary.
From April 25 through April 27, the ALA will release three brief online presentations that explore the growing impact of surveillance on our civil liberties. Each presentation is designed to help librarians better understand how government agencies and corporations are collecting, storing and using data about individuals' daily lives. These presentations will be posted on privacyrevolution.org, and can be used to guide library program planning or can be shared with the community during Choose Privacy Week:
